The Chamber views itself as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience between industrial, commercial and service enterprises in Japan and Switzerland. It promotes the discussion of economic-related themes and other topics of shared interest relating to the two countries. The Chamber encourages mutual understanding and sees itself as having a mediating role. It maintains good relations with the authorities and economic organisations in both countries and supports them through the development of bilateral relations.

Meetings of the SJCC members are held regularly, and lectures and seminars are organised on important aspects of bilateral contacts. The Chamber also supports and counsels companies.

The Chamber awards grants through its Scholarship Fund for the purpose of encouraging and supporting young Swiss residents in their efforts to learn more about Japan, its culture, language, and social and business environments.
