Global recognition and appreciation of Japanese whiskies began in the 21st century and reached  the peak with Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2015 declaring the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 „World Whisky of the Year“, defeating all traditional Irish and Scottish whiskies.

It all started in 1918 when Masataka Taketsuru travelled to Scotland to learn the process of distilling whisky. Back in Japan, he founded Nikka, the base of Japanese whisky.
