Sachio Semmoto co-founded DDI Corporation (now KDDI) with Kazuo Inamori in June 1984. KDDI is now Japan’s second-largest provider of fixed line, mobile telephony, and internet services. It is capitalised at $60bn, has annual revenues of $44bn and employs over 35,000 people. Semmoto also founded Ymobile Corporation and served as its Chairman of the Board and CEO before concluding a share-swap with Softbank in 2013, valued at $2.6bn. Semmoto is a Lecturer at Harvard, Stanford and Cambridge University in the UK. He is involved on the Boards of 3i Group, Softbank, Sega Corporation and Japan Private Equity. Dr. Semmoto is currently Chairman of Renova Inc, where he is pioneering a series of renewable-energy initiatives to tackle climate-change.
