Dr. Konrad Hummler
Dr. Konrad Hummler (*1953) was brought up in St. Gallen (Switzerland), in a house that was open to politics and culture. The primary and secondary school were not more important for him than his manifold engagements in youth organizations. Dr. Hummler studied law at the University of Zurich and economics in Rochester (N.Y.), on the invitation of the monetarist Karl Brunner.
After his dissertation he joined the personal staff of then President of the Board of the Swiss Banking Corporation, Dr. Robert Holzach. Since 1989 he has been working at Wegelin & Co. Privatbankiers, St. Gallen, since 1991 as an unlimitedly liable executive partner. Dr. Hummler is known for his wit and pointed pen: He is the author of the legendary Wegelin Investors Letters (appearing every seven weeks) as well as of many other political and economic studies and articles.
Dr. Hummler has been a member of the board of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since 2001, of which he became chairman 2011. After having retired from important mandates such as the Board of the Swiss National Bank and the chairmanship of the Swiss Private Bankers Association, he still retains his industry mandate at Bühler Uzwil (since July 2010).
In his spare time Dr. Hummler enjoys mountain climbing and mountain biking. In 1999 he created with his own funds the J. S. Bach-Foundation, St. Gallen, with an intention to bring all of the songs of the great composer to the audience. This undertaking will certainly last another 10 to 15 years.
