David Chiavacci
Professor Chiavacci is the Mercator professor for Japanology at the University of Zurich. His research focuses on:
- political sociology, economic sociology and knowledge sociology in Japan
- immigration and immigration policy in Japan
- social structures and social inequality in Japan
- comparative society studies with focus on Japan.
In his academic career, professor Chiavacci has been an academic assistant at the University of Zurich, a visiting scholar at the Institute for Law and Politics at the University of Tokyo and at the Seminar for East Asian Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. He has been professor for modern Japan studies at the Univ. of Duisburg Essen and since 2010 he is full professor in Zurich.
