After the great success of last year’s event where we introduced the “Under One Roof” project during its construction phase, we now have the pleasure to invite you again to EPFL in order to show you the finalized building, which was officially opened on November 3, 2016.

Also known in its programmatic guise as “EPFL ArtLab”, this amazing building designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma hosts three separate public spaces highlighting the intersection of science, technology and the arts:

  • the DataSquare, which is dedicated to displaying and providing access to EPFL’s major research projects (currently the “BlueBrain project” and the “Venice Time Machine”)
  • The “Experimental exhibition space”, which currently has the exhibition “Noir, c’est noir ? ” (Is black black?) that explores the interaction between light and the work of the French artist Pierre Soulages.
  • The Montreux Jazz Café and Archives, which is dedicated to presenting the famous festival’s archives (more than 5000 concerts), which are inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

Head of Content for the “Under One Roof”/“ArtLab” project and an SJCC alumnus himself, Luc Meier has kindly agreed to make himself available again to show the ArtLab Building to SJCC members and selected guests.

Meeting point is at 6 pm at the “Montreux Jazz Café” inside the ArtLab Building.

After the visit, which will take about 90 mins, there is the opportunity to have dinner in the “Montreux Jazz Café” at own cost.

We very much hope that you can join us for this event.
