For more than 20 years, EPFL has been a key player in innovation in Switzerland. The Vice Presidency for Innovation (VPI) is dedicated to this role and ensures the interactions between EPFL researchers, students, economy and the society.

The VPI is in charge of the deployment of the Switzerland Innovation Park Network West EPFL, which is closely linked to the expansion of EPFL’s other antennas in surrounding regions (Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchatel, Sion). It is the interface with industrial players, in particular through the EPFL Innovation Park.

The EPFL Innovation Park is devoted to housing startups, SMEs, research teams and innovation cells from major companies that operate in fields as diverse as information technology, computing, health and nutrition, engineering, transport, telecommunications or materials. Located on the campus, the Innovation Park currently hosts over 120 startups, 26 large companies and around 20 services providers. Over 2’000 people – mainly engineers, researchers, scientists and administrative staff – work for companies in the Innovation Park.

Our hosts will introduce us to the concept and features of the Innovation Park EPFL’s innovation ecosystem. He will also explain about the many interactions with Japanese Scientific institutions and companies.
