With  Bakumatsu (幕末), the forced opening of Japan in the second half of the 18th century, Japanese art became a source of inspiration for many Western artist. From the paintings of Klimt, Monet and van Gogh, to the clothes designed by Christa de Carouges – all of them have a common root: Japan. Nowadays, Japanese and Western culture are deeply entangled.

Kunsthaus Zug explores these references in their exhibition “Alles oder Nichts”, where they show selected items from the collection of the “Historisches und Völkerkundemuseum St. Gallen”.

The SJCC Young Professionals come together for a private tour through the exhibition. The museum’s director Matthias Haldemann and co-curator Nina Schweizer will guide us and answer all our questions.
