Switzerland´s International Strategy on Education, Research and Innovation

Martina Hirayama is Head of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI. She studied Chemistry at the ETH Zurich, the University of Fribourg and Imperial College London, graduating from ETH Zurich with a doctorate in technical sciences. She went on to pursue postgraduate studies in Business Economics at ETH Zurich, where she successfully completed her thesis. She served as Director of the ZHAW School of Engineering, a member of the university’s executive board, and Head of International Affairs. Additionally, she was President of the Board of the Federal Institute of Metrology, Vice President of the Innovation Promotion Agency Innosuisse, and a member of the Swiss National Science Foundation board. She also held positions on the boards and executive committees of several other organizations.

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI – within the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER – is the federal government’s specialised agency for national and international matters concerning education, research and innovation policy. SERI has an annual budget of CHF 4.8 billion to promote education, research and innovation.
