Press Review: “Switzerland is being overtaken by the EU.”
On 17 July 2018, the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Japan was formally signed. It is expected to enter into force as early as 2019. It puts Swiss exporters at a disadvantage, and they now face discrimination.
For Martin Herb, President of the Swiss-Japanese Chamber of Commerce, this means: “As early as from 2019, Swiss companies will be disadvantaged in the Japanese market compared to their EU competitors.”
The Parliamentary Group Switzerland-Japan and the Swiss-Japanese Chamber of Commerce (SJCC) have issued a joint media release to draw attention to the implications of this free trade agreement for Swiss exporters.
At the same time, they reiterated their demand for an urgent renegotiation of the existing agreement between Switzerland and Japan. The media have reacted to this with broad-based coverage:
