Tokyo 2020: Entry into Japan for Overseas Spectators not Allowed

On 20 March the organisers informed that overseas spectators will not be allowed entry into Japan for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets purchased by overseas residents will be refunded.

This drastic measure might also impact the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing which are planned for February 2020 – less than six months after the Tokyo Games close.
