Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann
The last time that Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER, visited Japan was in July 2014 with an economic delegation. With a trade volume of just over 11 billion Swiss francs, Japan remains the fourth most important trading partner of Switzerland in Asia. One important reason why bilateral economic relations between Switzerland and Japan flourish while global trade remains depressed is the Free Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (FTEPA).
National Councillor Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter
From 25 March to 1 April 2017, a delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Switzerland-Japan paid an official visit to Japan upon invitation by the House of Representatives of the Japanese Diet. The delegation was led by National Councilor Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter. Since the creation of the Group in 2014, the SJCC serves as the office of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Switzerland-Japan (スイス日本友好議員連盟).
